I love me some Olivia and a new unit!

Y'all I think my daughter's name may have to be Olivia. I love it regardless, but after reading Olivia again I realize how much I love that character. She is one sassy sister.
Luckily this fabulous story is in our reader, and the skill is fantasy vs. reality with it. We made these littles again courtesy of Leslie Ann at Life in First Grade

And finally I have a new unit! I seriously don't know how some of y'all pump these things out. I seriously agonize over these things. But, I posted about this recently and have been trying to make this bad boy since then. So without further ado...

Yay! Click on the picture to see it! It has two brainstorming pages, a pre-write, a sloppy copy, a final copy, and a craftivity!

I also have exciting news....I am waiting until it is all official with some certification things to announce. Which makes me ask, anyone have tips on supplemental ESL certification?

What's happening?!

The last week was cray, but I wanted to share some pics with you!
We did contraction surgery!

This was so funny! I called them "Dr. _______" the entire time! I even let them write it like that on their paper! Here is the little sheet I made to go with it:
Contraction Surgery
Other than that we started our America unit from the fabulous Mrs. Jump! This unit is awesome. GO get it! I am planning with Ms. Simoneaux of transforming our hallway into an America wonderland. Stay tuned. It is almost time for Mardi Gras!! We get three days off and I could cry I am so excited! We will be doing activities from my Mardi Gras Mambo unit!
I am also stressing because we have QST this week, also known as Quality Support Team, also known as get out of my room. They are coming to watch me teach Social Studies at 10:00 am. UMMM I teach Reading at the time. But hey come on in and interrupt my day and get my kids of schedule just so you can get your observation in. RUDE. Needless to say, I am not happy about it. So to cheat the system I am doing "Social Studies" but with a Reading connection. I really have the opinion that you come on and you get to see what I do everyday no dog and pony show in Room 103. :)
And.....

YAY! Seriously though, thank you so much for going to this little store and even buying something! It means so much to me! The sale is until tomorrow!

Happy Sunday!

I'm ready!

Whew! The productivity bug must of bit me! Or maybe it's because I have been in bed all weekend? I am feeling better though. If you ever feel sick drink this stuff...
It looks gross, but it tastes amazing! Like pineapple, I promise. It also has a ton of stuff that makes you feel better. Highly reccommend my friends!
Back to my productivity...I finished my new unit today. It is a pack of FORTY reader's response sheets.
Last summer I bought this pocket chart while on a spree with Ms. Simoneaux at Lakeshore Learning when we were in Houston for Debbie.
I had been eyeing it online and it was on sale, but got it when we went to the store. Well, sadly they don't make it anymore. :( BUT I made a packet of sheets that correlate with all the questions in the chart! I am going to use it at my classroom library workstation. Click below to check it out:

Go and click on my facebook page for the jungle and you can see how you can score a free copy!

I know it is super bowl Sunday and all, but it is sad I would rather watch the puppy bowl? Too cute right?!

Mardi Gras Mambo!

Yay! I can hear the song in my head! I am not going to lie though I am apologizing in advance if this post makes no sense, because I am getting sick and took some medicine....feeling prettttty good! (makes me think of friends, prettyy pretttyy good!) I am also watching that right now as I type.
Okay so yay new unit! So, if you're a reader you know I live in Louisiana and we love us some carnival time down here! It is a really big deal. So, to spread those good times to all and show some different cultures I made a mini-unit full of fun activities for your students to do!
It includes: a how-to writing project on how- to make king cake, an ABC Mardi Gras word center, make your own mask, Mardi Gras math problems, two creative thinking sheets, and a letter to send home about students making their own floats.
Click below to check it out!

And, if you can name the Mardi Gras ball I am attending for the second time this year I will give you a FREE copy! Guess away, and Laissez Bon Temps Rouler!

Time for some chilly writing!

Hello all! Went back today, just for meetings and I had all these grandiose plans to get stuff done......yep....you guessed it. NONE of it happened. Oops?
I did get successful when I got home though. {Even though it is jersday! Yes, I am a fan of the jersey shore. Don't judge!}
Regardless of my awful TV watching, I finished my latest unit! WOOP! It is a pack of FIVE fun winter themed writing activities. I changed them all up around different forms and traits of writing. I also included some thinking maps {our school is looooving these right now, so I figured why not?} There are also five fill in the blank stories {remember mad libs? kinda like that!} I am planning on putting them in my writing work station. Here is preview!
The topics are pretty cute {if I do say so myself}, click the preview to get a look!

First 3 to comment get a FREEEEE copy!

I actually had time to make this!

Last week, I had the patience for writing! YAY! It really is a trek to get writing done and with all the other holiday projects it was hard. BUT, we did and I loved what the outcome was.
Our skill last week in writing was write a silly story. I decided to have my students write a story about a silly snowman. We used the writing process, and after the final copy was done we made a snowman that was silly!

I mean how cute?! I love seeing how they decide to interpret silly!

So, I couldn't sleep last night so I made this into a mini-unit!
It includes: two thinking maps, a writing web, a sloppy copy paper, a final copy paper, a snowman craftivity, a writing rubric, and a reader's theatre play written by moi!
Click below to check it out!

Also, because free is always fun....answer this question right and I will give you a free copy!

I am in the process of organizing my classroom library.....how do you think I am leveling it?

Amazing what gets done on a break!

I have been working on this beast for two weeks now and I finally finished it! The craziness of the impending holiday and grad school threw a few road blocks my way.

I started to notice at the beginning of the year that I needed something new for my pocket chart station. I decided to make these fun phonics sorts so I could put them in the work station when we go over the phonics skill of the week. Here is a picture of my students doing the short vowels:

It is a great activity for them to sort words and to also blend and read those words and put them in their vocabulary! The unit includes seven different sorts. I based them on the phonics skills we use in our reading series, Treasures. It has short vowels, long vowels, s- blends, l- blends, r- blends, digraphs and triple consonant blends. Go check it out!

Also, first person to answer this question gets a FREE copy of this unit!

How to cook a turkey!

So, I had a few requests from some people to see if I could make a how to cook a turkey mini-unit. I said hey why not?! I just posted it this morning! Go check it out! It is similar to how to make pumpkin pie, so for the impending holidays you can get your kids excited about writing and you will probably be hungry!

Pumpkin Pie Yummm!

This week in writing we are doing how-to writing! I decided that since we were going to be eating pumpkin pie on Monday that it would be perfect to do how to make pumpkin pie! I used some of the elements from First Grade Fanatics "It's a Pumpkin Parade" unit. This was such a cute unit, and we did the pumpkin pie in a bag recipe on Monday to start off the writing unit.

It was so tasty and a great way to kick off our writing! I decided to make a mini-unit for this so that everyone could join in the fun! It includes 3 pre-activities to help students visualize, a writing web, a sloppy copy paper, and a final copy paper. I also included a cute craftivity to make a pumpkin pie to display their writing. Click the picture below to go and check it out!

Also, I am giving ONE away to the person who can answer this question!
What is my favorite Thanksgiving dessert??

Add it Up! A new math tub unit!

Hey all! I hope Sunday is treating you well!
I have just finished my first math unit for TPT! I realized that when we started addition last week that I really did not have a good amount of quality addition math tub activities. So, I decided I would make some! This math tub unit has seven activities all based on addition concepts. I tried to incorporate a lot of different ways to do addition. I put number lines, dot cards, dominoes, and pictures in this unit.
Click on the preview below to go and check it out!

Also, the first three people to comment will get a FREE copy! Make sure to put your email address!
Thanks for the love!

We love Biscuit!

I am FINALLY done with my new unit for TPT! I have been so crazy with everything else going on I did not have the full time to give to making it. I honestly do not know how some people make all of this and then have kids too?! Bless you all!
Well, I love doing author studies in my classroom. I decided to start out my year with Alyssa Satin Capucilli. She writes the "Biscuit" books! I love them and they are so great for my early readers who want to have a real book to read. So, I made a unit with SIX different graphic organizers each for a different comprehension skill. Each organizer also goes along with a different Biscuit book.

Also, I know I have put this in a post before, but I wrote to Alyssa last year and she wrote me back through email! THEN, she sent my class books and a letter! It was amazing!
Made my year!
Since I am finally done with this unit, I am GIVING TWO AWAY!! Two ways to enter...

1. Leave me a comment saying you are a follower!
2. Blog about this giveaway on your blog, and put the link in your comment!
Giveaway ends on Sunday at 10:00 pm, and I will announce the winner on Monday! Good luck!

Happy hump day!

Whew! What a week! and a new unit!

Whew...is right! We started with the kiddos on Wednesday and it was a marathon! Those three days are so crazy, trying to explain everything and get all those cute activities done that you want to do! Thanks to Babbling Abby and her Fun with Firsties unit I was set!

So, today I finished my new unit for TPT! We always start the year with all about me and citizen topics in Social Studies. Unfortunately our curriculum is kinda boring with those activities, so I decided to make this unit to spice it up a little bit and make teaching these important concepts more fun! It has activities for all about me, all about my family, being a classroom citizen, and following the rules. I added literature connections too! Click the picture below to go and check it out!

I am also going to giveaway TWO of these units for FREE! You have to answer this question in a comment on my blog and I will pick the the first TWO people who get it right! Make sure to put your email in the comment!
My first name is Ffion, what language is my name from?

Happy Sunday!!

I finally did it! I have been putting it off for forever now, (mainly because I am new to paypal, still not sure if I did it right?) but I am officially on there selling stuff!
I only have two things up now...you can get my ice cream contractions for FREE, and I just posted a new Valentine's Day literacy activity. It is based on the book "If You'll Be My Valentine" by: Cynthia Rylant. Go and check it out! I will be hopefully making new things to put up there!
