Making Words!

This is a great tool to use for learning common spelling patterns. My mentor teacher showed me this, and I made my own and have been using them ever since. They are a core part of my small group instruction.
It is a file folder with the two copy masters glued inside. The consonants are all together, with the vowels underneath them. The digraphs are on the other side for practice with these. I then use post-it notes (the super sticky are the best) to place on top of each letter. The kids can then pull each letter across to spell on the other side. It is a great tactile reinforcement. I put each category in a different color to really make the pattern pop.
